Developing and designing many of Chicago’s premier real-estate projects, primes Related Midwest and SOM invited Engage Civil to join the design team as civil engineer of record, tasked by the CHA to design a hybrid library and apartment building to rise up from a make-shift parking lot in Little Italy.

The approximately 37,000 sq.ft. site is constrained by a building and alleys to the west and, like many sites constructed in the City of Big Shoulders, challenged by significant R.O.W. infrastructure on its other sides. Since the project had an aggressive design/build schedule, Engage provided critical, and timely, design deliverables in support of the procurement of early Foun- dation Permits which were obtained in advance of the building permits.

With a parking lot of permeable pavers, the low-impact stormwater detention field is integrated with the parking lot,and detailed concrete flatwork and grading in full ADA compliance now welcome the many visitors and residents of this Little Italy new arrival.
