As part of renovations for the existing Hyde Park Academy building, the
main parking lot and loading dock were completely redesigned by the AOR, Landscape Architect, and Engage Civil. While the existing drive surfaces were deemed in poor condition and needing to be replaced full-depth, Engage devised a more ‘surgical’ approach for the existing storm-sewer network and curbed landscaped islands that preserved as much of that existing infrastructure as practicable, ultimately eliminating the need for any R.O.W. work. The Stormwater is managed in an open-graded stone bed beneath an elegant and durable permeable paver surface, while the remainder of the parking lot is served by asphalt and heavy duty concrete at the dock and trash loading areas. Engage served as Civil Engineer of Record for all design and construction ad- min phases, providing specifications, drawings, and calculations in accordance with the City of Chicago Stormwater Regulations and Chicago Public Schools.
